Hartati has spent her life getting a deeper understanding of Minangkabau dance while being part of Gumarang Sakti Dance Company for almost 20 years. In the below, she goes in-depth on how dancing started in that region, the specific details of movements and how it is reflective of daily life in the Minangkabau culture.

DekGam, known as the King of Ratoh Jaroe, is the man behind this glorified dance. Here he discusses what the Ratoh Jaroe Dance is, how it differs from other dances from the same region and different movements he has choreographed throughout the years.

ACEH, where Ratoh Jaroe originated from, is the western most province in Indonesia. Located on the northern tip of West Sumatra, where majority of the population is Muslim.
